There’s a lot we want to do this year. New stuff. Bigger Stuff. There’s also a lot of stuff we did last year that we want to do better this year. Notice that I said we “want” to do this stuff. I am, by all means, staying away from that certain cliché. C’mon, you know what I’m talking about. That’s right – RESOLUTION.
Not that I’m against being resolved…to find yourself in the eye of a storm comprised of dreams, ambition and determination. It’s just that to put on a pedestal the making of resolutions only one day of the year is silly. With the 365 days of a year down the road, a resolution on day one begs to join the ranks of fleeting thoughts. I’m reminded of a quote from the TV show Deadwood as spoken by the character Al Swearengen played by Ian McShane: “Announcing your plans is a good way to hear God laugh.” Now I know this wasn’t a line original to the show, but because, in my opinion, it was one of the most well written shows of all time, Deadwood is the context from which the sentiment stuck with me.
My point is this – Change is the one and only constant. It took our species from primordial ooze to outer space. It took Brittany Spears from a size 2 to a size 12. So to stare at the new calendar steely eyed and resolute only on January 1st is naïve. Something might come up the next day that makes you think, “What the hell was I thinking?”
We at Endurance Films want to do some big things in 2012. We have set certain goals. We hope that our friends, our customers and all the amazing athletes with whom we work have also set goals (Was “whom” used correctly there? I never know). And we wish you all the best in achieving those goals. As far as having “resolution”, it is indeed a necessity. But it is a state of mind from which we’ll work every day, not just the day that coincides with a champagne hangover. Oh, by the way…I resolve that next year I will not have a champagne hangover.
Happy New Year!
