The Value of a Minute- Ten Penny Ale Shamrock Duathlon Race Report

1 Minute, 60 seconds, 60,000 milliseconds. It’s the amount of time it takes to heat up food for lunch in a microwave; it was the difference between winning the men’s ITU San Diego race a few weeks ago, and missing the US Olympic team all together. It’s the difference between a 16:59 official Ironman finish, and an official DNF. It can be the difference between buying a winning and losing lotto ... Read More

On Being an Endurance Films Racing Team Member

I've been asked a few times what it means to be part of the Endurance Films Racing Team. I detect skepticism about the "team" part. I can attest the sense of “team” is real and it has become increasingly important and valuable to me. We are a pretty diverse group but representative of Age Groupers. We are spread out across the country from coast to coast; we range in age from early 20's to late 5... Read More

Race Report: A WIN at the Smith Mountain Lake Sprint Triathlon

This was a breakthrough race for me, a home run. I hit significant PRs on the bike and run resulting in 1:13:03 race -- a 5:33 improvement over last year’s time (2:21 off last year's run and 4:18 off the bike). That was more than enough for the overall female WIN! My first ever! Simply said, things came together in a way that exceeded my expectations. I am still shocked by how this race unfolded.... Siphiwe's 2012 Ironman South Africa Race Report

PRE-RACE Word was circulating that a storm was coming in to Port Elizabeth and that there would be some heavy wind. I heard the howls as I fell asleep. Somehow I managed to sleep about 8 hours before the race and woke up at 4:00 am. My long training days taught me that I don't like to start on an empty stomach. I need real food. So my wife made me a spinach omlette with a 3 oz piece of grilled s... Read More
